The big January tax law made the federal estate tax permanent, but the man who dubbed it the “death tax” is back battling to get rid of it. “We can repeal this tax in 2017,” booms 77-year-old Jim Martin, one of the early eccentric advocates of estate tax repeal, who now heads up the 60 Plus Association, a conservative seniors organization.

Jim Martin: While states across our nation are dropping the Death Tax in order to create jobs and protect seniors, Terry McAuliffe actually wants to take Virginia backwards.
(Alexandria, Virginia) — Democrat Terry McAuliffe’s journey down the road to the Virginia Governor’s mansion hit a major roadblock this week when voters were reminded that the onerous and unpopular Death Tax is among the many taxes he has supported raising. The Democrat hopeful voiced opposition in 2009 to then Governor Tim Kaine’s repeal of Virginia’s Death tax, a position which undermines his current campaign overtures to make Virginia more business friendly.

North Carolina has long been a retirement destination for America’s seniors, and after this tax reform passes it will be an even more attractive destination. The tax reform proposal will reduce the income tax rate for all North Carolinians, cut the state sales tax across the board, and most importantly it will eliminate the state’s death tax.
