No Surprise: ObamaCare Continues to Push Healthcare Premiums Skyward

60 Plus Jim Martin: “Pulling the plug on health care legislation will be welcome relief to all.”

(Alexandria, Virginia) – 60 Plus Association Chairman Jim Martin, leader of the nation’s largest conservative seniors advocacy group, responded to a new Kaiser Family Foundation survey released today that revealed that far from lowering health care premiums as the President promised, his health care legislation has caused individual and family private insurance premiums to skyrocket in 2011, at a rate 300% higher than in 2010.  Premiums increased on average 3% in 2010, and so far in 2011 are up between 8% to 9% since last year.

“Color me UN-surprised.  Candidate Obama promised us his health care legislation would lower premiums by $2,500 per family.  To him that must seem like ancient history, but most Americans recall this promise quite clearly. Today premiums for most families are not only not falling, but they are rising faster than ever.  This legislation continues to be a disaster for seniors and our families, and its repeal needs to be at the top of every presidential candidate’s ‘to do’ list.

“History proves without fail that government involvement always leads to higher costs and fewer choices.  This is the legacy of the health care law and exactly why over 60% of Americans didn’t want it, and didn’t believe one word of the President’s sales job when he rammed it through the former Congress.

“Sadly, we have reached a point where the failures and broken promises of ObamaCare are no longer news.  Nothing promised has come true: people have lost coverage, doctors and health care providers are leaving the practice of medicine, rationing is knocking ever louder on the door, and costs are accelerating beyond control.  This should serve as a reminder to all voters as to the worth of one of the President’s promises, and a further wake-up call to every Washington politician that if you do not vote to repeal this legislation, you could be repealed come election day.

“Recall that in the 2010 election cycle we predicted a senior citizen tsunami would wash through the halls of Congress and that the House would switch to Republican control.  It did, primarily because of seniors’ fear of the health care ‘reform’ rammed down their throats.  The same tsunami is ready to come ashore in gale force once again in 2012.”
