Seniors Honor Contributions of Coal Workers on National Miners Day

Jim Martin: “When you turn on a light switch, cook your dinner or heat up your home, thank a miner for all they do to provide us the energy we need to power our lives.”

(Alexandria, Virginia) — America’s largest center-right seniors group today issued a statement in celebration of National Miners Day, recognizing the immense contributions of American workers who keep our nation running.

Supported by 7.2 million seniors nationally, the 60 Plus Association has long been a vocal advocate for the mining industry and its workers, issuing a statement in honor of miners from Chairman Jim Martin:

“Today is a special day, when we give thanks and honor the thousands of tireless workers in the mining industry who make everything we Americans do possible. At a time when many are waging a war on coal, destroying jobs, families and coal communities, we want it known that we will always stand proudly with miners, and honor the work they do and the enormous contributions they make to our nation.

“For as long as I can remember, as the proud son of a coal miner from eastern Kentucky, we have always used coal to keep the lights on. It is an American resource mined right here within our borders and it delivers affordable power that has helped make our country the prosperous nation it is today. Coal provides the reliable and affordable electricity America needs. America’s economy runs on coal, senior’s lives literally depend on coal. In fact in the long run, coal saves lives.

“The Obama EPA is hell bent in destroying an entire industry. If they succeed hundreds of thousands of miners and workers in related industries will be unemployed. We can and we will stop this ruthless attack on America’s energy suppliers!”
