Legislation fosters innovation that leads to real, lasting solutions to seniors’ healthcare needs.
(Alexandria, Virginia) – The 60 Plus Association, America’s leading center-right seniors advocacy organization with over 7.2 million supporters nationally, today offered its strong endorsement to H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act, which will streamline government red tape in the approval process for medical devices and medications, while helping the U.S. regain and strengthen its reputation as the global leader in medical innovation.
Said 60 Plus Vice-President Matthew Kandrach, “We strongly support this historic initiative, which puts innovation and government reform squarely as the cornerstones of providing better cures for Americans, while helping reduce the federal deficit in Washington that threatens all of our well-being.
“Through short-term investments to the National Institutes for Health (NIH) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA), America will realize real and permanent cost savings in meeting our obligations to serve the poor and elderly through Medicaid and Medicare. Saving money while fostering innovations that cure is the right legislative prescription for America’s seniors.”
The proposed legislation received unanimous support in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, passing 51-0.
“This bill not only strengthens our nation’s healthcare and fiscal situation,” continued Kandrach, “but also sets the model of government reform that provides incentives to encourage the innovation that will provide real, lasting solutions to seniors and their families.”
