Jim Martin: “Democrats so discredited on Medicare, even THEY don’t believe own press releases.”
(Washington, DC) – 60 Plus Association Chairman Jim Martin – head of the leading national conservative seniors advocacy group – today blasted the Democrats’ deception and fear-mongering on the issue of Medicare reform. Martin made his comments at the 2nd Annual Faith and Freedom Conference in Washington, D.C., as part of a panel entitled ObamaCare: Repeal, Replace, Reform.
“The Democrat plan to do nothing while Medicare heads to bankruptcy over the next decade is a political crime of the highest order, and something that every senior, and every American citizen ought to be fully aware of.
“While President Obama and the Congressional Democrats are doing nothing to preserve Medicare, they are in fact doing as much as possible to speed the demise of the program, such as cutting over $500 billion from its budget and instituting rationed health care through the unelected IPAB, who alone will determine whether we treat grandma or let her die.
“Democrat fear-mongering on Medicare is nothing new. Fifteen years ago the Washington Post called Democrat leader Dick Gephardt (D-MO) to task for launching a false ‘Medi-scare’ campaign against Republicans, in a shameless attempt to scare seniors. To underscore the fact that scaring seniors runs deep in the Democrat DNA, just two days ago the Post again called the ‘Medi-scare’ tactics of the DNC false on their face, and ‘distortions.’
“The right plan for seniors is one that protects those currently in Medicare from any disruption in their services, and further ensures that Medicare will be strengthened for future seniors. This is what the Ryan plan accomplishes; leaving Medicare completely in tact for those 55 and older, while reforming the way it works so that those 54 and younger will have a sustainable program to count on in their golden years.
“This is why ObamaCare must be repealed, and a sensible plan must be enacted to save Medicare for the future. Democrats have no plan, none whatsoever. Under their watch, Medicare will be bankrupt in a decade, and seniors will be thrown to the wolves. A bankrupt Medicare is what scares seniors most of all, as it means longer waits, rationed care, doctors leaving the profession, higher premiums, much less compassion, and much worse quality of care. THAT is what scares seniors today, and that is the all too true reality under the Democrat Medicare scenario.”
