(Cedar Rapids, Iowa) – The non-partisan 60 Plus Association, representing more than 7.2 million seniors nationally, including more than 113,000 in Iowa, today presented its Guardian of Seniors Rights award to Iowa Senator Charles Grassley (R) for his strong support of America’s senior citizens, including his stance as a vocal leader on the need for tax reform to create jobs and stimulate the economy.

With nearly 30 million U.S. seniors on fixed-incomes and struggling day-to-day to make ends meet, economic growth remains a top concern for older Americans and their families.

Said 60 Plus VP for Communications Gerard Scimeca, on hand in Cedar Rapids to present the award, “Senator Grassley has a long and established record as one of the most trusted friends seniors have in Washington. Throughout his distinguished career, Senator Grassley has been unwavering on behalf of America’s elderly, always hearing their concerns, and standing firmly in their corner.

“Now, with Washington borrowing trillions to pay its bills while also collecting record tax revenue, Senator Grassley understands the time has long since passed for bi-partisan tax reform that will allow Americans to keep more of the money they’ve worked for. Just as importantly, tax reform will help entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes create jobs and spur much needed economic growth.

“The elderly face many challenges on a daily basis, and the challenges of economic uncertainty and poor economic growth caused by our obsolete tax policies grow more daunting each day. Seniors have worked hard to create and preserve the America we know, and we have a responsibility to pass on a nation full of opportunities to the generations ahead. We urge Senators and elected officials  from both sides of the aisle to join Senator Grassley in working to achieve tax reform this coming year.”
