CPAC 2021: The conservative movement is alive and well. In fact, I believe it’s growing and has been invigorated by millions of NEW voters, who are culturally conservative, traditionally non-partisan, and share most of our traditional values but also love the America First agenda.
I think we are going through growing pains in the center-right movement known as the Republican Party and we need to be patient, respectful, tolerant, and realize we need to build our coalition. As with any coalition, we are NOT going to agree with everything nor with everybody. There are folks at CPAC whose views I don’t agree with & there were things said that I didn’t agree with. There will be many passionate debates on our side. But we are on the “right” side.
The GOP once was described as a coalition of a three-legged stool composed of fiscal, social, and foreign policy conservatives. President Trump added a fourth leg to that stool ̶ those who support an America First perspective. Ultimately, we will be stronger because of it.
I attended my first CPAC in 1978 as a college student (I am aging myself here). I left excited, invigorate and full of hope and optimism that America’s best days were still ahead of us. I still believe that today just as much as I believed it then. But this time, the enemy seems to be within.
The “woke” movement or “cancel culture” that is dominating the liberal progressive left Democrats is scary. It’s definitely NOT my parent’s Democratic party. I’m pretty sure there is NO way John F. Kennedy could be nominated by today’s Democratic Party.
After talking to so many fellow conservatives, hearing speeches and getting fired up about our future, all I can say is don’t give up. The best is yet to come.
Everything Doesn’t Have to Political…but it is: Both Republicans and Democrats are hot. Each side feels under attack and distrusts the other side. Virtually every proposal, every comment every post is being politicized. I believe this is NOT good for the country.
This doesn’t mean we don’t and can’t have passionate philosophical differences. But we need to debate them and discuss them…NOT censor them through the “cancel culture.”
The Democrats are in charge and in control, so they have the obligation to reach out and start the dialogue. They could lead by looking for consensus instead of partisan advantage.
Republicans have to be willing to sit down and talk.
Otherwise, the polarization of America will continue and there is NO way that ends well.

We have let the free stuff giving go on for so long that there are now more people getting free stuff than paying for the Free stuff.
Now understand this.

The reason?
The voters figured out they could vote themselves money from the treasury by electing people who promised to give them money from the treasury in exchange for electing them.
The United States officially became a Republic in 1776, 243 years ago.
The number of people now getting free stuff outnumbers the people paying for the free stuff.
Failure to change that spells the end of the United States as we know it.

Republican Governors Slam COVID Relief Bill as ‘Reward’ For States With Strict Lockdowns
Democrats’ proposed COVID stimulus package, which is currently being debated, is receiving criticism for language on the allocation of funds to individual states. Buried in the hefty bill is a mandate that will ultimately benefit blue states, by ensuring that funding is contingent on a state’s unemployment population rather than the entire population.
States with high unemployment rates, including California and New York, will reap the benefits of this statute within the bill. Republican governors have led by example by reopening their states’ economies, resulting in lower unemployment rates, but will ultimately be punished by the provision written in by Democrats.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) accused Democrats of “rewarding the states that have the highest unemployment rates,” ultimately incentivizing lockdowns.
Sen. Rick Scott says GOP will flip at least four Dem Senate seats in 2022
Sen. Rick Scott predicted on Friday that the Republican Party will flip blue Senate seats to red in at least four states in the 2022 midterms, after earlier this week declaring that the civil war within the GOP is “canceled.”
“I think we’ve got opportunities across the country,” Scott, R-Fla., said in an interview with Fox News. “Clearly, we’re going to pick up Georgia. We’re going to pick up Arizona. We’re gonna pick up New Hampshire, we’re going to pick up Nevada. But I think we have opportunities all across the country. There’s 14 Democrat seats up and I think we can get quite a few of them.”
Scott is the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), which means he’s the person charged with bringing the GOP back to the Senate majority in 2022. He spoke to Fox News shortly after his address to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
McCarthy Reveals Shocking Percentage of COVID Relief Bill That Is Actually About COVID-19
It didn’t take the swamp long to come back in full force after former President Trump left office, and there’s no better example of that than the COVID-19 relief bill, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said.
Speaking to Fox News’ Sean Hannity, McCarthy said that “only 9 percent of it goes to COVID.”
“What they are doing is telling you the swamp is back. Everything you have warned your viewers about before the election is coming true in this bill,” he said,
Fox News’s Greg Gutfeld called the bill the “political version of money laundering” and compared it to “Breaking Bad,” whose main character Walter White bought a car wash to launder money for his illicit meth business.
“I’m going to point out something that is either so obvious it is idiotic or so obvious it is brilliant,” Gutfeld said on “The Five.” “The stimulus is a device for the government to give itself more money, think about it, we are watching an entity writing a check to itself, sure, we are getting some money out of it, which was oh, by the way, our money to begin with, but this is now a political version of money laundering.”
GOP ‘Civil War is now canceled,’ says NRSC chair Rick Scott in fiery memo asking for party unity ahead of 2022
“The Republican Civil War is now cancelled,” Sen. Rick Scott, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), says in a fiery memo being sent widely within the Republican Party on Tuesday.
The two-page letter, first obtained by Fox News, is addressed to GOP voters, activists, leaders and donors. Scott, who is charged with winning back the Senate for Republicans in 2022, says in it that the GOP needs to put aside its internal squabbles and focus on beating Democrats, not on relitigating Trump-era internal disagreements.
“The long running impeachment show is now over,” Scott, R-Fla., writes. “This political theater should have been held at the other end of Washington in the Kennedy Center instead of the US Capitol. It was an unserious circus. It’s over. Now it’s time to look ahead.”
Former President Donald Trump was acquitted of the House impeachment charge against him earlier this month by a vote of 57-43, with seven GOP senators voting to convict. Scott in his letter says that rather than continue to debate impeachment, Republicans need to wake up to the successes Democrats are having with their federal government trifecta.
The Rise of Intolerant Liberals
Why have liberals become so intolerant? They think nothing of denying someone as prominent as former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice from speaking on a college campus. They embrace activists who shut down speakers. They publicly shame people for the slightest deviation from liberal orthodoxy.
Their mindset is the very definition of closed-mindedness.
For them everything from science to the law is “settled” once they get into power. Progress is a one-way street. Their mindset is the very definition of closed-mindedness.
The easy answer would be “they are all bad people.” But frankly that’s a cop-out. Not all liberals are bad people, any more than all conservatives are angels. No doubt among the fevered minions of liberal activists there are people with, shall we say, psychological issues, but that doesn’t explain why so many otherwise reasonable people are so beholden to liberalism as an ideology.
The short answer is that it pays. A lot of people in and out of government benefit. Liberalism also makes people feel good. Whether you are politician dispensing government benefits or the citizen receiving them, liberalism hides the self-interest and sometimes even greed that motivate people.
But the devolution of liberalism into something now openly illiberal has causes far more complex than these familiar explanations provide.
For one thing, liberalism is no longer mainly about ideas. It is about power—as in who has it and who doesn’t. Believing they already know the answers to all questions, liberals view politics and governing as mopping up operations.
Inside a Battle Over Race, Class and Power at Smith College
In midsummer of 2018, Oumou Kanoute, a Black student at Smith College, recounted a distressing American tale: She was eating lunch in a dorm lounge when a janitor and a campus police officer walked over and asked her what she was doing there.
The officer, who could have been carrying a “lethal weapon,” left her near “meltdown,” Ms. Kanoute wrote on Facebook, saying that this encounter continued a yearlong pattern of harassment at Smith.
“All I did was be Black,” Ms. Kanoute wrote. “It’s outrageous that some people question my being at Smith College, and my existence overall as a woman of color.”
The college’s president, Kathleen McCartney, offered profuse apologies and put the janitor on paid leave. “This painful incident reminds us of the ongoing legacy of racism and bias,” the president wrote, “in which people of color are targeted while simply going about the business of their ordinary lives.”
The New York Times, The Washington Post and CNN picked up the story of a young female student harassed by white workers. The American Civil Liberties Union, which took the student’s case, said she was profiled for “eating while Black.”
Media invents a Republican ‘civil war’ (Saul Quoted in Article)
News coverage in recent weeks has suggested that the Republican Party is facing either a massive identity crisis or grave infighting which could compromise the Grand Old Party forever. The possibility of a GOP “civil war,” in fact, has been broached by news organizations in print, online and in broadcast. The idea has been dissected by The Washington Post, CNN and The New York Times — to name just a few — and among a surprising number of overseas sources.
The list of news organizations is lengthy. The press, however, may have to rethink their strategy.
“Let’s be perfectly clear: there is no civil war in the GOP, no major schism, no two sides battling for control of the party of Lincoln. Poll after poll shows us that Republican voters overwhelmingly see Donald Trump as the leader of the party. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Rep. Liz Cheney‘s hopes that voters would abandon Trump have been dashed on the cliffs of reality,” writes David Marcus, New York correspondent for The Federalist…
…“The progressive left’s ‘woke’ cancel culture IS the greatest threat to America as we’ve known it. The enemy within, unwilling to talk, debate, compromise or look for consensus IS a very big part of the problem. The Democrats now control every lever of power. It is their responsibility and obligation to lead,” Mr. Anuzis says.
Putting the GOP “Civil War” in Perspective
The degree to which folks continue to view American politics through the Trump prism is both understandable and frustrating. On the one hand, despite losing the election, the former president has remained an omnipresent figure in our daily lives. He spent almost every day from November 3rd until January 20th attacking the integrity of the election, browbeating state officials and tweeting out various conspiracy theories. January began with an attack on the U.S. Capitol and ended with Trump’s impeachment. Early February was occupied with the Senate trial. As Katie Rogers wrote in the New York Times, this past weekend was the first in more than four years where Donald Trump wasn’t the story.
However, that weekend reprieve was short-lived as Trump will take the stage on Sunday in Orlando at the annual CPAC conference. And, once again, the political conversation will revolve around GOP infighting and the challenge for Republican leaders like Mitch McConnell to put Trump in the rearview mirror. In an attempt to pre-but that narrative, NRSC Chairman Rick Scott sent out a memo on Tuesday declaring that while “a parade of pundits and even Republican voices suggesting we should have a GOP civil war…This does not need to be true, should not be true, and will not be true.” Of course, just because the leader of the campaign arm of the GOP Senate committee declared that “the Republican Civil War is now canceled” does not make it so.
However, before we declare that the GOP is in free-fall, it’s important to remember we are only ONE MONTH into Biden’s first term. We are more than 20 months away from the midterm elections. Trump’s role in 2022 could be a definitive issue in the next election. Or, it may not be. I don’t mean to sound snarky. But, honestly, we need some perspective here…
…Donald Trump has been such a constant in our lives for the last four years that’s it’s hard to imagine our politics without him. Moreover, we’ve never seen a party, its voters and its elected leaders continue to enthusiastically embrace a candidate who lost re-election. But, it’s also true that it is incredibly early to declare that he will continue to cast a defining shadow over the next election. Or even the next year. Democrats are in charge now. And, that means that their success—or failures—will be on the ballot in 2022.
How Will Non-Trump Republicans Navigate Around Their Very Trump Base?
The reports coming out ahead of CPAC are that the former President wants to essentially set himself up as the king-maker at the very least. There is even the possibility that he will declare himself the “frontrunner” of the 2024 Republican primary, putting himself at the forefront of what is already promising to be a very tough battle between a lot of Republican politicians who want to seize control now that Trump is out of office.
In yesterday’s column, one of the points I highlighted was the need for people who were extremely critical of Trump to understand that how a person runs a campaign and how they may appear can be at odds with how they govern, given that they still need Trump’s base in order to be elected and re-elected. As I mentioned, Ron DeSantis is one of those politicians who needed to run very close to Trump when he ran for Governor of Florida, but he has governed as his own man since – and surprisingly well at that, given what his state and the nation have had to go since he took office.
There are a good many Republicans who are in a similar position to DeSantis, who I think is somewhere in the middle of the Trumpometer (patent pending). Those who are above DeSantis on this scale are the ones who are more populist and/or more Trump-like. This would be Republican politicians like Josh Hawley (populist) and Matt Gaetz (Trump-like/Trump cult-like). These Republicans are all in either on what the Trump movement was trying to accomplish or on trying to stay in Trump’s good graces for the inevitable return.
Those Republicans are, obviously, not always going to be on the same side. If Trump runs again, he is (currently) likely to face Hawley, Ted Cruz, and others looking to win Trump’s base. Gaetz and others, like Jim Jordan, would be looking to support Trump and bring him back into a seat of power in Washington D.C. As you move from the top of that scale on down, you’ll come across Marco Rubio, Tom Cotton, Nikki Haley, and others.
Tech Censorship Is Accelerating
Now that voters have turned the authoritarian GOP out of the executive branch and Congress, Americans should expect the open exchange of ideas to flourish again. Right?
Consider two events Monday. First, the conservative scholar Ryan Anderson announced that Amazon had purged his 2018 book, “When Harry Became Sally,” from its web store. The book criticizes recent progressive ideas about gender and especially the wisdom of sex-change procedures in children.
Amazon declined comment on the reasons for the ban, but comment is hardly needed. The tech companies have grown increasingly open about their ideological censorship.
Also on Monday, two Congressional Democrats wrote a stern letter to CEO Jeff Bezos about Amazon’s role in politics. If you took seriously the party’s promises to defend “democratic norms,” you might expect Democratic politicians would express concern about the world’s third-largest company by market capitalization trying to suppress a book on a contested political issue.
But the letter is a demand for more ideological censorship. “Our country’s public discourse is plagued by misinformation, disinformation, conspiracy theories, and lies,” write Reps. Anna Eshoo and Jerry McNerney. They quote a claim that right-wing media is “much more susceptible,” and demand to know why Amazon’s Fire TV carries certain conservative programs.
Clarence Thomas Dissent in Election Cases: ‘Our Fellow Citizens Deserve Better’
“Our fellow citizens deserve better and expect more of us,” Justice Clarence Thomas declared Monday, when the Supreme Court decided — by one vote –to hear none of the 2020 election cases raising issues of voter fraud and illegal votes.
Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett voted with the liberal justices to deny review of the lower court decisions.
Four justices must vote to hear a case to put it on the Court’s docket, but only three justices — Thomas, fellow conservative Samuel Alito, and libertarian Neil Gorsuch — voted to take at least two of four of the key cases from November 2020.
All three dissenting justices took the unusual step of writing opinions as to why the Court should have taken at minimum two of these cases.
“The Constitution gives to each state legislature authority to determine the ‘Manner’ of federal elections,” began Thomas. “Yet both before and after the 2020 election, nonlegislative officials in various States took it upon themselves to set the rules instead. As a result, we received an unusually high number of petitions and emergency applications contesting those changes. The petitions here present a clear example.”
“The Pennsylvania Legislature established an unambiguous deadline for receiving mail-in ballots: 8 p.m. on election day. Dissatisfied, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court extended that deadline by three days,” Thomas explained, referring to one of the rejected cases. “These cases provide us with an ideal opportunity to address just what authority nonlegislative officials have to set election rules, and to do so well before the next election cycle. The refusal to do so is inexplicable.”
America Should Demand $25 Trillion in Reparations from China
China knowingly hid the truth of what was happening in Wuhan in late 2019 thus unleashing the greatest global pandemic since the Spanish Flu of 1918. Based on America recouping the unjustified damages it incurred, and likewise the need to deter China from ever doing this again, America should demand reparations of $25 trillion from China.
It’s one thing when a virus naturally mutates into something dangerous and then spreads from person to person becoming a deadly epidemic such as Ebola. Nature can be vicious, this we know, and we don’t seek to place blame for it.
The current coronavirus pandemic is a very different situation though. And the Wuhan Institute of Virology seems to be at the center of it. This lab is known for creating offensive biological weapons programs and has been conducting secret lab research since 2017. This Institute also has close links to China’s military. As the movie character V famously said, “There are no coincidences, only the illusion of coincidences.” And the fact that the coronavirus first appeared near the Wuhan Institute is no coincidence. Predictably, China continues to refuse investigations into finding the virus’s origin, because they know where it leads. China’s refusals are a tacit admission of guilt.
What we do know for certain is that China was keenly aware of what was happening in Wuhan, covered it up, and then hid it from the world in the critical early days, weeks, and months. All the while continuing to allow foreign travel to and from the region. Why didn’t China warn the world? Why didn’t China stop all foreign travel?
A Hole in Our Hearts
With talent on loan from God. Cynics may think it coincidence that God chose Ash Wednesday to call that loan. He has taken his good and noble servant home. That great voice on the right has now gone silent. It cannot be replaced.
Like Ronald Reagan, Rush Limbaugh was a long time coming. He will be a long time gone.
Tens of millions have a huge hole in our hearts today. We remember specific segments of shows, what he said and where we were when we heard them. Our emptiness is multiplied as we now confront the prospect of a three-hour hole in our days.
I don’t remember the first time I heard the Beatles. I can’t recall the first time I heard Paul Harvey. But I do remember the first time I heard Rush Limbaugh. Suddenly there was this guy on the radio who was saying the things I thought. An intimate bond was formed. A bond that lasted three decades.
Rush gave me and many the courage to be more than we thought we could be. He inspired us. I met Rush at a reception after the election of 1994. He was invited to speak to our freshman class. We had ushered in the first Republican Congressional majority in 40 years. We awarded him a pin making him a fellow Majority Maker, recognizing the critical role he had played, pushing and pulling us over the finish line.
Rush Limbaugh: The Original Cancel Culture Target
Rush Limbaugh is frequently credited with reviving talk radio in America, and that is true. But Limbaugh was also “patient zero” of today’s cancel culture, with dozens of efforts to kill his program for one ginned-up controversy after another. They all failed, and the inside story of how he handled the efforts to discredit him is a useful lesson for today.
Rush’s first rule was simple: “No faux apologies for fake transgressions.” The best illustration was the “phony soldiers” controversy in 2007. Rush was speaking with a caller on his program about “phony soldiers” like Jesse Macbeth, who had falsely claimed to have seen war crimes, and who was ultimately convicted for receiving veterans benefits to which he was not entitled. But Harry Reid and 40 other Senate Democrats deliberately misinterpreted his comments and sent his syndicator a letter demanding an apology, which of course wouldn’t have been accepted.
Rush auctioned their letter off in a show of gleeful brio, marching the document on stage handcuffed to his security guard during a Philadelphia speech. He matched the $2.1 million winning bid with his own funds, and donated the money to scholarships for the children of fallen service members and police officers. It was classic Rush: punching a hole in the arrogant, exposing their flaws, turning something fake into something larger than life, all while having “more fun than a human being should be allowed to have,” as he often said.
If You ‘Sit Back’ While ‘American Culture Is Being Destroyed by the Left,’ You’re Doing It Wrong
Over the last 12 months, we have witnessed the insidious spread of the radicalized culture of the far-left accelerate to the point that to suggest it threatens all of American society suddenly doesn’t sound all that alarmist and hyperbolic, anymore.
Are we sitting back, watching it happen on TV? Are we wringing our hands on social media, and perhaps debating — or destoying, depending on our degree of adeptness — a far-left idiot, here and there — to make ourselves “feel good” about winning the “keyboard war”?
Conservative actor and director Kevin Sorbo has been thinking many of the same thoughts, which he shared with podcaster John Solomon on Tuesday.
First and foremost, Sorbo warned, don’t sit back while the left destroys American culture, and think “there’s nothing I can do,” so we just “got to get through this time.”
