Arlington, VA — “The death tax was not killed yesterday, it was only wounded. It needs to have a wooden stake driven through its heart so that it will stay buried a fourth and final time.

“I take pride in having popularized the term ‘death tax’ for the confiscatory estate tax, having been credited with revitalizing that term by anti-tax conservative Grover Norquist on the right and super-liberal Bill Gates, Sr. on the left (in his new book).

“It’s encouraging that the House of Representatives overwhelmingly ‘stabbed’ the death tax with the help of 41 Democrats who set aside the bogus argument that it’s a tax cut for the rich. I pray enough Democrats in the Senate will do likewise, but I’m not holding my breath.”
