Biden gone, Democrats rally around worst possible candidate
It wasn’t really a surprise that President Joe Biden announced Sunday that he will no longer be a candidate for a second term. After all, Biden was under crushing pressure from some of the most powerful forces in the Democratic Party: congressional leaders, fundraisers, former President Barack Obama, and especially former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). In the time-honored Washington way, once Biden relented and stepped aside, people who just hours earlier had their boot on his neck raced to express their heartfelt respect and admiration for his judgment, selflessness, and patriotism.
What was a surprise was the speed with which the party apparatus ran to embrace Vice President Kamala Harris as the new Democratic nominee for president of the United States. Before Biden’s decision, there was a lot of talk about possible replacements at the top of the ticket — not just Harris but Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA), and others. But once Biden withdrew, there was a stampede to Harris. By Sunday evening, a majority of House Democrats, a majority of Senate Democrats, a majority of Democratic governors, and all of the state party chairs had committed to support Harris. No, the top names pushing Biden out, most notably Obama, did not join in. But by Monday morning, Harris was well on her way to securing the Democratic nomination.
Unelected technocrats are now the nation’s chief executives
President Biden has not been seen in public since announcing he would not seek re-election on Sunday. Biden’s “resignation” was nothing more than a text-only post on Twitter/X—and we know that the president does not manage his own social media accounts. There has been no video of the president making an announcement, and the White House is apparently planning no press conference or official act of any kind. Biden has not been seen by anyone except his inner circle in days. (We can contrast this situation with Lyndon Johnson’s televised address announcing his withdrawal from the 1968 presidential campaign.)
This is, in the words of Glenn Greenwald, “strange.” Moreover, Biden’s silence is inexplicable if Biden actually made the decision to withdraw from the race. After all, Greenwald, notes, if Biden is “well enough to decide, then he’s well enough to speak.” Yet, following one of the most important announcements of his political career, Biden has disappeared, and few things could better illustrate how irrelevant Biden now is to the matter of who is actually running the executive branch of the United States government. (We do have some audio of him speaking on a Monday phone call.)
A chain of events like this is characteristic of a palace coup—something along the lines of the 1991 August Coup in the Soviet Union, had it succeeded. In such cases, the chief executive is marginalized and replaced at the discretion of high-ranking bureaucrats and elites from within the ruling government itself.
Joe Biden Dropped Out To Save Democrats, Not Democracy
The American people are owed an explanation for the Democrat elite’s coup of their democratically elected nominee for president.
In every election this century, Democrats have smeared Republicans as a party built on voter disenfranchisement. When Democrats lose, it is because Republicans have manipulated voter ID rules, registration requirements, or early and mail-in voting periods to suppress votes.
Somehow, free IDs, lax registration requirements, weeks upon weeks of early voting, and rules that let able-bodied citizens vote from their couches are voter suppression and the cause of Democrats’ electoral losses.
Since Sunday, however, the mask has dropped. We now know which party has no qualms about disenfranchising as many voters as necessary to preserve or gain political power. In orchestrating President Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Hakeem Jeffries, and the rest of the Democrat elite disenfranchised millions of voters across the country. Their calculations and machinations had the same effect as if they had taken every single ballot cast over the past six months and tossed them into the yawning depths of the Grand Canyon.
In place of the Democrat voters’ choice of Biden, the country will be offered Kamala Harris — a woman who has the endorsement of exactly zero voters to become president in 2024 and could not even finish within the top seven of the Democrat field in 2020.
On Kamala Harris’s role, media cross border into outright lies
Facts are facts, even if they make new presidential candidate Kamala Harris look bad. This fact is undeniable, no matter how much dishonest media try to obfuscate it: President Joe Biden appointed the vice president to stem the tide of migrants to the U.S. southern border. Period. No wiggle room.
And the almost inarguable judgment is that she failed at the job. Miserably. The tide didn’t recede; it rose and crashed in huge waves upon our (figurative) shores.
It was way back on March 24, 2021. Biden, in a White House meeting that included Harris, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, announced he was tapping Harris to lead the administration’s response to the growing number of migrants arriving at the U.S. border. Her job, he said, was “stemming the migration to our southern border.” He also said she “agreed to lead our diplomatic effort and work with nations [to our South] to accept re- — the returnees, and enhance migration enforcement at their borders — at their borders.”
Biden told reporters before the meeting that he wanted Harris to be the point person on the border, to speak decisively for the administration. And in a call to reporters after the announcement, a senior official told reporters unequivocally that Harris’s focus would be on the historic surge of illegal border crossings.
Within hours stories emerged in major news organizations with clarity that “Biden was tasking her with leading efforts to stem migration and the border” with dozens of elite news organizations referring to her as the “border czar.” This is irrefutable history. It’s all documented.
Cost of living top concern among seniors this election: survey
Rising prices are going to influence who people cast their ballot for president this November.
A survey from Retirementliving.com found that seniors are most concerned about the cost of living this presidential election.
This is regardless of party affiliation, with both Democratic and Republican-leaning voters saying cost of living is a top concern.
Crime, immigration, abortion access and climate change are other top concerns among seniors, the survey found.
Older Americans will be thinking about the country’s high cost of housing, food, and energy when they head to the polls this November.
Seniors regardless of political party affiliation are the most concerned about just how expensive life has become in the U.S., according to a new survey from Retirementliving.com.
More than 19 percent of seniors named cost of living as their biggest concern and 57 percent said it was one of their top three concerns ahead of the presidential election, according to the survey.
Inflation and crime were two other major concerns among seniors, the 1,039-person survey found.
While seniors with political loyalties on both sides of the aisle said cost of living is a major concern for them this election, other top concerns varied by party affiliation.
The second and third biggest concerns for Republican-identifying seniors are immigration and crime while Democratic-identifying seniors are worried about abortion access and climate change, according to the survey.
Revisiting On Liberty: Magnificent Guide in Troubling Times
The year 1859 was eventful. Construction on the Suez Canal began, Darwin published The Origin of Species, John Brown raided and was subsequently executed in Harpers Ferry, Colonel Drake drilled the world’s first oil well in Pennsylvania, and Charles Dickens published A Tale of Two Cities.
Yet for classic liberals and libertarians, the year marked another significant milestone and a cause for celebration: the philosopher and economist John Stuart Mill published On Liberty.
The masterpiece was an attempt by Mill to balance the safeguarding of liberal rights with utilitarianism (the greatest good for the greatest many).
On Liberty presents a powerful case for maximum individual freedom, so long as others are not directly harmed by the individual’s actions.
Mill famously states, “The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others.”
Today the Left tramples the individual. Society desperately needs a refresh of On Liberty.
ON LIBERTY’S CORE PREMISES
In a democracy, how does one protect the people from a government of themselves? How does one protect the minority from the majority?
Mill recognized that in a republic or a democracy, the tyranny of the majority can deny the rights of the minority or dissenter. Individuals can easily be oppressed within a climate of collective opinion and by values that may be popular but that haven’t been critically tested.
