Letter in Support of Lifting Oil Export Ban

December 2, 2015

Representative Joe Barton
2107 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Barton:

On behalf of our more than 7.2 million supporters, as well as nearly 30 million seniors living on fixed incomes, the 60 Plus Association writes to you in support of your “Changing Crude Oil Market Conditions” amendment to H.R. 8, the North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act.

Unnatural, and unnecessary obstacles to the free trade of America’s energy resources hurts our economy and stifles the free market, which in turn hurts consumers, especially America’s elderly, the majority of whom are on fixed incomes. In offering this amendment to lift the ban on crude oil exports you are standing with America’s seniors, who pay a disproportionate share of their monthly income compared to other age groups to meet their energy needs.

Ending obsolete and counterproductive trade restrictions on America’s energy will bring benefits to our economy and strengthen national security. Free trade and open markets further enhance energy independence for our nation, which benefits all.

60 Plus offers our most sincere appreciation for your efforts in strengthening America’s energy position in the world, and urges your colleagues to likewise support this measure without delay.

Sincerely,

Matthew Kandrach

Vice-President, 60 Plus Association
