Statement: 60Plus Applauds Hospital Price Transparency Executive Order, Urges Full Compliance to Protect Seniors

Alexandria, VA – The 60 Plus Association fully supports President Trump’s Executive Order (EO) advancing price transparency in healthcare. For America’s seniors, this is a crucial step toward ensuring access to high-quality, affordable care.

Older Americans rely on healthcare services more than any other age group, and with the U.S. senior population expected to grow rapidly in the coming decades, transparency is more critical than ever. Seniors deserve the ability to compare prices and make informed decisions about their care—without fear of hidden costs or financial uncertainty.

Building on efforts introduced in 2019, this new EO finalizes a rule requiring hospitals to publicly disclose pricing information online. This not only empowers patients, but also increases competition, improves care quality, and helps drive down soaring healthcare costs. As President Trump has stated, “Price transparency will lower healthcare prices and help patients and employers get the best deal on healthcare.”

The need for this policy is clear. According to Fidelity’s 2022 Retiree Health Care Cost Estimate, the average retired couple at age 65 will spend approximately $315,000 on healthcare throughout retirement—an expense that continues to rise annually. Without price transparency, seniors are left in the dark about costs, limiting their ability to seek the most affordable, effective treatment options.

Furthermore, nearly 80% of older adults have at least one chronic condition requiring ongoing care. The complexity of hospital pricing should never be a barrier to managing these conditions effectively. With clear, upfront pricing, seniors can focus on their health—not deciphering unpredictable medical bills.

Hospitals must fully comply with price reporting standards to ensure that seniors can access the care they need at a cost they can afford. The 60 Plus Association stands firmly behind this initiative and urges continued action to protect seniors from unfair and inflated hospital expenses.
