Senator Warner Runs, But Can’t Hide from his Anti-Senior Record in Virginia Senate Debate

Jim Martin: “Seniors have better memories than you think, Sen. Warner. Despite your phony rhetoric, we know that you cut Medicare, you said ‘NO’ to offshore drilling, you raised our taxes and were a deciding vote to pass Obamacare.”

(Alexandria, VA) – In a debate hosted this morning by the Virginia Bar Association, U.S. Senate candidates Sen. Mark Warner (D) and Ed Gillespie (R) squared off on a host of issues important to Virginia senior citizens.

Jim Martin, Chairman of the non-partisan 60 Plus Association, which represents more than 7.2 million seniors nationally, including 157,000 in the Old Dominion, released the following statement at the debate’s conclusion:

“Today the voters of Virginia saw in crystal clarity that Sen. Mark Warner is nothing more than an Obama rubber stamp in the U.S. Senate. Despite all of his talk of being a bi-partisan, independent moderate, he votes with President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid more than 9 out of 10 times.

“Seniors have better memories than you think, Sen. Warner. Despite your phony rhetoric, we know that you cut Medicare, you said ‘NO’ to offshore drilling, your raised the taxes of struggling Virginians and were a deciding vote to pass Obamacare. Virginians are learning that what you do in Washington is a far cry from the bi-partisan politician you claim to be while campaigning in Chesapeake, or Roanoke, or Rappahannock, or Harrisonburg.

“President Obama has been by far the most hostile President to the interest of America’ s elderly, and Sen. Warner has been with him every step of the way, supporting all of his legislative initiatives to take away our doctors, cut the Medicare we paid for, take more money from our pockets, shut down American energy production and undermine job creation.

Sen. Warner, you had the opportunity to abolish the death tax that harms small businesses and farms all over the Commonwealth. Even the Democrat you say you think and vote the same with, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, voted to rid taxpayers of this terrible burden. Instead you toed-the-line with Barack Obama and Harry Reid.

“Today, Sen. Warner had the opportunity to explain to Virginians how he has used his six years in the U.S. Senate to make our Commonwealth and our nation stronger, more prosperous and better cared for and he failed. Our national  debt has increased an alarming $7 trillion dollars due to liberal  big spending policies endorsed by the team  of Barack Obama and Mark Warner.

Seniors see Mark Warner for who he is, a partisan, big-government politician who can’t tell the truth about his Senate record.”
