ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (August 31, 2018) – 60 Plus Association Founder and Chairman James Martin, and 60 Plus Association National Spokesman Pat Boone, issued the following statements Friday on the occasion of Sen. John McCain lying in state at the US Capitol.
From Mr. Martin:
“The people filing through the Capitol Rotunda to pay their respects to John McCain bear witness to his courage, his honor and his statesmanship.
“It was not possible to shake hands with John McCain without feeling his genuine passion for public service. Throughout his military career, his internment by the Vietnamese Communists, and his time in Congress, John McCain served his country with distinction.
“John McCain lived a life of service to the nation he loved. From one military man to another, I salute John McCain. He will be missed by all, and all of us at 60 Plus offer our prayers and deep condolences to his family.”
From Mr. Boone:
“As a student of America’s early history and the lives of our founders, I always look for modern examples of their wisdom and courage. Too many of our current elected leaders look to polls and party, instead of principles on which our country was founded and grew.
“I came to see John McCain, from when he was first taken captive and spent valiant years in the “Hanoi Hilton”, through all his years defending our true liberties and original purposes, as a modern Nathan Hale.
“As a young American revolutionary facing a British hangman’s noose, Nathan Hale said famously, ‘I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.’
“That describes John McCain’s whole life and his enduring legacy in American history.”
