The Outdated U.S. Tax Code

September 6, 2017

The Honorable Kevin Brady
1011 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Brady,

The outdated U.S. tax code, last overhauled more than three decades ago, has rendered American job creators less competitive in the global marketplace, slowed the growth of wages, and discouraged investment in local communities across our country. We write to urge you to support meaningful, transformative tax reform that will strengthen economic growth and enable greater prosperity for America’s job creators and middle-class families.

The tax code was designed for the economy of 1986, and is fundamentally unsuited for the way business is done today. By inflicting the highest tax rate in the developed world on job creators, and penalizing companies for repatriating global earnings, the U.S. tax code has shackled our economy.

This year, Congress and the Trump administration have a once-in-a-generation chance to pass pro-growth tax reform. The benefits of these reforms will be widespread, with gains touching every corner of our nation:
• Simplify the tax code, saving billions in compliance costs each year
• Make U.S. job creators competitive, resulting in higher wages and greater job opportunities
• Eliminate global tax penalties, encouraging investment in U.S. communities
• Lower tax burdens on working families, strengthening America’s middle class
As you push forward, know that the American conservative movement, and millions of conservatives across the country, stand squarely behind you. Under the skilled leadership of Speaker Ryan, Leader McConnell, Chairman Brady, and Chairman Hatch, and with your determined effort, we have faith that Congress can pass pro-growth tax reform our economy so desperately needs; jumpstarting job creation, increasing wages, and creating stronger economic growth that will benefit every American. This opportunity calls for nothing short of unity of purpose, courage of conviction, and visionary leadership in pursuit of a victory American workers and job creators deserve.
