Unhappy Anniversary to You: Defund the Stimulus NOW

Jim Martin of 60 Plus asks, “Are you better off than you were two years ago?”

(Alexandria, Virginia) — On the two-year anniversary of President Obama’s failed stimulus plan, grassroots activists and working Americans are telling Congress, “cut the credit card and DEFUND the stimulus.”

“Two years ago Obama told us that without this trillion dollar ‘stimulus’ spending bill, our national economy would be extremely weak, careen toward bankruptcy, and sport an unemployment rate near ten percent,” said Jim Martin, Chairman of the 60 Plus Association.

“I’m not breaking any secrets if I point out all of these things happened anyway, and on top of it all we now have is another trillion dollars of debt on the nation’s credit card to be paid to foreign governments by future generations.  What a shameful way to mark the 21st straight month of 9% or more unemployment, the longest stretch at that level since the Great Depression.

“Most Americans know you can’t tax and spend your way to prosperity. The ‘stimulus’ plan made our economy worse and remains the sticking point for government to get out of the way and let the American worker and free market system pull us out of this recession.  So long as our government is spending gobbling up resources and creating debt, our economy will never get out of Obama’s ditch, let alone fire on all pistons.”

60 Plus is one of many organizations participating in the DefundTheStimulus.com Initiative to activate support for Congressman Sean Duffy’s bill that defunds the tens of billions of dollars remaining in the stimulus.  So far, tens of thousands have signed the ‘People’s Petition’ in support of defunding the stimulus today!
