Here’s where the Biden-Trump polls stand in 7 swing states
The battle between President Biden and former President Trump is ramping up with the general election for the White House now underway.
Biden and Trump both easily became their party’s presumptive nominees last month, but each candidate will face a long and difficult campaign in a rematch of the 2020 contest. In a race expected to be razor-tight, a handful of battleground states will likely determine the winner.
Biden swept almost all of them on the way to his victory four years ago, but polls have mostly shown Trump in the lead in each of them so far.
Here’s where polling stands in the seven battleground states:
Americans are draining their retirement accounts, racking up debt due to high inflation
High inflation forcing Americans to make ‘worrying’ financial choices
The chronic inflation crisis is hindering millions of Americans’ ability to prepare for their financial future, according to a new study published by Allianz Life.
Findings from the Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America show that U.S. households are draining their retirement savings, taking on debt and reducing the amount that they are setting aside for the future to maintain their present-day finances.
Nearly 7 in 10 respondents said they have not contributed as much to their savings due to higher prices for everyday goods, while 51% of Americans said they are racking up more credit card debt in order to pay for necessities.
On top of that, nearly 42% of households reported dipping into their retirement savings because of inflation – a “worrying” sign for long-term financial stability, according to the report.
“The rising cost of living is stretching American budgets,” said Kelly LaVigne, vice president of consumer insights at Allianz Life. “Just because inflation has slowed doesn’t mean prices have gone down. In the short term, it may be wise to delay any major purchases to keep saving toward your future and avoid taking on new debt.”
The study comes as Americans continue to confront stubbornly high inflation that has rapidly eroded their purchasing power.
Why Are They Destroying Us?
If someone wished to destroy America, could he do anything more catastrophic than what we currently see and hear each day? What would an existential enemy do that we have not already done to ourselves?
Here are eleven now familiar steps to civilizational destruction:
1) Wipe out a 2,000 mile border. Allow 10-million foreign nationals to enter unlawfully. Have no audit of any; nullify all federal immigration laws. Let toxic drugs in that kill 100,000 Americans a year. Give free support for those millions who broke the law. Smear any objectors as racists and xenophobes.
2) Run up $35 trillion in national debt. Keep adding $1 trillion to it each 100 days. Defame anyone wishing to cut wild spending as cruel and inhumane.
3). Appease or subsidize enemies like Iran and China. Demonize allies like Israel. Allow terrorists to attack Americans without response. See Islam as either similar or superior to Christianity. Make amends to leftist governments for supposedly past toxic American international behavior. Follow the lead of international agencies like the UN, ICC, and WHO to atone forpast American neocolonial and imperialist behavior. Recede to second-tier international status, befitting American decline.
4) In a multiracial democracy, redefine identity only as one’s tribal affiliation. Ensure each identity group rivals the other for victimhood and the state spoils it confers. Redefine all political issues by race and sex oppressors and oppressed. Destroy all meritocratic standards of admission, retention, promotion, and commendation.
‘FBI violated American citizens’ 4A rights 278,000 times’: Bureau blasted over attempt to put gloss on Section 702
The FBI is attempting to rehabilitate the public image of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act as Congress has until April 19 to reauthorize it. The bureau recently posted a video to X that features FBI Director Christopher Wray attempting to put a gloss on Section 702 as part of this monthslong campaign.
The bureau’s timely propaganda did not escape the attention of critics on X, where the post received a community note that read, “The FBI violated American citizens’ 4A rights 278,000 times with illegal, unauthorized FISA 702 searches.”
Among the critics was Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), who wrote, “FBI just got called out in a community note on X. Congress — take note. FISA 702 has been used for warrantless surveillance of U.S. citizens HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of times. Yet FBI demands 702 be reauthorized by April 19 WITHOUT a warrant requirement for searches of U.S. citizens.”
“Many in Congress will want to reauthorize FISA 702 — which is set to expire April 19th — either without modification or (more likely) with fake reforms that fail to impose a warrant requirement for searches directed at Americans,” added the senator.
Immigrant crime ring targeting high-end homes as families leave for vacation, Michigan sheriff warns
High-end homes in Oakland County, one of the wealthiest counties in Michigan, are being targeted by burglars who are linked to a South American theft group, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
Reports of break-ins have come as families head for spring break vacations, with burglars showing up in groups of three or four, targeting cash, safes, jewelry, and high-end handbags, per ABC 7 Detroit. In late March, two homes were invaded, according to Bloomfield Township police.
“People ask what community or what neighborhood,” Bouchard said. “It’s not community- or neighborhood-specific. It is target-homes specific. Very high-end homes with probably high-worth valuables in the home that back up to an obscure golf course, wooded area, pond. Whatever gives them access to come in unobserved.”
Reports of burglaries sparked last year, leading authorities to assemble a task force. Police are now encouraging residents in Oakland County and neighboring counties to keep their guards up.
“We encourage extra vigilance and remind our community to call on anything suspicious,” police said in a statement.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) has faced criticism for her subsidized housing program after an illegal immigrant recipient allegedly killed a woman in the state.
Elon Musk slams latest hoax spread by Biden camp: Trump did not call immigrants ‘animals’—he was referring to Laken Riley’s murderer
On Tuesday, Elon Musk slammed the Biden campaign for pushing the hoax that Donald Trump had called all illegal immigrants “animals” during a rally in Michigan earlier that day.
While the former president did use the term “animals,” he was referring to those who enter the country unlawfully and go on to commit heinous crimes, and in context, he was specifically referring to Jose Ibrarra, the illegal immigrant asylum seeker who was arrested for murdering Georgia nursing student Laken Riley. Nonetheless, his successor left out that context and tried to make it look like he was applying the label to a broad swath of people.
The full clip reveals that before the quote shared by the president’s team, Trump specifically referred to Jose Ibarra, the “illegal immigrant animal” who “barbarically murdered” 22-year-old Georgia nursing student Laken Riley.
The Biden campaign’s post was quoted by thousands, and while some went along with the claim that Trump was calling all illegal immigrants “animals,” many pushed back, offering the full, unedited clip as proof that his use of the term was targeted at a specific subsection of that group.
Border agents apprehend 182 Chinese citizens who crossed into US illegally in key sector: source
The number of Chinese citizens encountered at the southern border’s San Diego Sector has exceeded that of Mexican citizens so far in fiscal year 2024.
U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended 182 Chinese citizens who crossed illegally into the U.S. through a key sector of the southern border on Tuesday, Fox News has learned.
The Chinese nationals were caught after crossing into the San Diego Sector, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) source told Fox News, which has seen large numbers of Chinese migrants in recent months.
More than 22,000 Chinese nationals have been apprehended by the Border Patrol since Oct. 1.
Fox News Digital has reached out to border authorities.
The number of Chinese citizens arrested after crossing illegally has dramatically increased in recent years from 342 in 2021 to 22,233 since Oct. 1, the beginning of the 2024 fiscal year.
Fiscal year 2022 saw 1,987 arrests and 24,125 were reported for fiscal year 2023.
The number of Chinese migrants being encountered in the San Diego Sector is exceeding that of Mexican citizens, according to CBP data. Since October, the number of Chinese migrants encountered by border authorities is second only to Colombia (28,000). Third is Mexican nationals with 18,000, followed by Brazil (8,700) and Ecuador (7,700).
Migrants caught hiding at New Mexico middle school near border for second time in a week
A New Mexico middle school was put on lockdown twice late last month when a band of migrants trying to evade border agents were found hiding on campus.
In the first instance at Santa Teresa Middle School, located steps from the Rio Grande outside of El Paso, six migrants were found outside on March 27, KFOX14 reported.
The school was placed on lockdown and agents from the El Paso Border Patrol sector were dispatched and apprehended the migrants.
“Being that those schools are so close to the border. The proximity of the border, these types of events happen weekly,” Border Patrol representative Refugio Socorro told KOAT.
“A lot of people in that area that try to evade arrest from our apprehensions do have a criminal history or have immigration issues. So that’s the reason why they just take off running and go through locations they’re not even familiar with,” he added.
The school is located about five miles from a gap in the border wall known as “The Anarpa Gap,” according to KOAT, which is a common illegal crossing and makes the school a frequent hideout for migrants trying to evade capture.
“It is common for Border Patrol Agents to receive calls from the community in the Sunland Park, NM area, especially those impacted by migrants who often conceal themselves inside of properties,” Border Patrol representatives said, referring to the community near the middle school.
Just a week before the latest incident at Santa Teresa, the school was sent into lockdown again on March 20 after another group of migrants were found on campus.
Soaring interest costs to exceed defense spending as government faces fiscal reckoning
Soaring interest costs are set to exceed all defense spending this year, with the gap only growing over the next decade as lawmakers stare down major fiscal problems.
This year, the United States will be shackled with $870 billion in payments on net interest. That is nearly 5.7% more than the $822 billion the government will spend on national defense, according to budget projections from the Congressional Budget Office.
Interest costs exceeding annual defense costs for the first time is an indication of the problems that will arise thanks to borrowing that soared during the pandemic and has remained high even as the economy has recovered.
The government shells out more money, by far, on its military and defense than any other country in the world. Yet, that category of spending is set to be far exceeded by payments on the debt. A decade from now, in 2034, annual interest costs are projected to be a whopping $1.6 trillion. That is a staggering 45% higher than the U.S. is forecast to spend on defense in the same year.
“Long term, interest is going to be the biggest part of the federal budget and could cost as much as half to three-quarters of all taxes,” said Brian Riedl, a budget expert at the right-leaning Manhattan Institute. “Interest costs have already passed Medicaid, they are passing defense this year, by 2028 they will exceed Medicare, and by 2042 they will exceed Social Security to become the most expensive part of the budget.”
Criminal justice reform is alive. Thank conservatives.
Congress eliminated parole from the federal criminal justice system in 1984, but it didn’t completely do away with post-release supervision. About 3 of every 4 people leaving federal prison remain under supervision, often for years, and often for no good reason.
A transition period to ensure successful reentry into society after prison makes sense. But federal supervised release — a parole-like period of restrictions post-prison — lasts too long and is too expensive. It makes little distinction between those who are at high risk to break the law again and those at negligible risk. And there is mounting evidence that the longer supervision goes on, the greater the chance that the former prisoner will get into trouble again. The extended lack of real freedom interrupts transition to responsible post-prison behavior.
The Safer Supervision Act is a bipartisan bill that would shorten post-prison supervision upon a showing that public safety would not be negatively affected.
It is similar in spirit to the First Step Act, another bipartisan federal criminal justice reform that was signed into law in 2018 by President Trump. The act reduced excessive federal prison sentences while encouraging rehabilitation. It was one of the few truly bipartisan successes in years, a result of efforts by CNN commentator Van Jones and U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey.
And, importantly, reform-oriented Republicans.
Joe Biden Moves to Slash Medicare Advantage
The Biden administration has finalized its move to slash Medicare Advantage as the 46th president has claimed former President Donald Trump seeks to slash entitlement programs.
The Biden administration on Monday will cut base payments for Medicare Advantage plans by an average of .16 percent despite pressure from Republicans and healthcare experts. This follows Biden making controversial moves in the risk adjusting coding system to allegedly make Medicare Advantage payments more accurate.
Biden’s move would impact more than half of Medicare enrollees, as many American seniors now look to Medicare Advantage for their healthcare needs. American seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage could see their supplemental benefits reduced or cost-sharing increased by $33 a month in 2025, according to experts.
Chris Meekins, an analyst, said, “President Biden’s team is gambling that MA beneficiaries won’t realize before the election the benefits Biden’s team is causing them to lose come January 2025.”
Biden’s move to slash Medicare Advantage comes as Trump told Breitbart News he will never touch Social Security or Medicare. This runs contrary to claims from Biden and Democrats that he would cut entitlement programs.
