60 Plus Enters the Arizona Solar Debate

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Earlier this week, the 60 Plus Association, on behalf of over 7 million senior citizens nationally and more than 165,000 in the Grand Canyon State, released a hard-hitting online ad campaign urging citizens to get the facts on Arizona’s solar debate at AZSolarFacts.com.

“The sky-rocketing energy rates facing Arizonans will hit seniors and those on fixed incomes the hardest,” said 60 Plus Association Chairman Jim Martin.  “We support solar power and very much want it to be sustainable in the long term.  That’s why rates must be fair to all customers.  We released this ad to tell the public why solar companies are really against net metering reform -–unfortunately, they depend heavily on corporate welfare for their financial bottom line.”

The 30 second ad, titled “Corporate Welfare,” opens with the announcer’s statement, “We’ve seen this before,” then transitions to President Obama’s 2011 statement, “The true engine of economic growth will always be companies like Solyndra.”  A full transcript is below.

Announcer: “We’ve seen this before.”

President Obama: “The true engine of economic growth will always be companies like Solyndra.”

Announcer: “Connected companies getting corporate welfare.  Now California’s new Solyndras, SunRun and SolarCity, are getting rich off hardworking Arizonans.  Out-of-state billionaires using your hard-earned dollars to subsidize their wealthy customers.  It’s not right.  We don’t need this California style corporate welfare in Arizona.  Get the facts about these out-of-state solar companies at AZSolarFacts.com.”

The ad can be viewed here, or at AZSolarFacts.com.
