Michigan is on My Mind: Dear Michigan friends… what an opportunity we have to help turn our home state of Michigan around.
Democrats and progressive liberals (not to mention socialists) who now control today’s Democrat Party have spent the “rainy day fund” surplus, allowed illegal immigration, created sanctuary cities, and added illegals onto the voting rolls. They have also paid millions in corporate welfare to try and buy jobs, especially “green jobs,” which has proven to be a huge failure.
But there’s hope!!!
Michigan voters nominated Congressman John James to run for Governor. An accomplished public servant with a military and business background that can help turn things around. Michigan can’t afford four more years of Democrat control of the Governor’s office, let alone the Secretary of State and Attorney General. John James offers a real choice… leadership that can make a difference.
Nationally, Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat is ground zero when it comes to control of the Senate. Michigan has nominated former Congressman, State Senator, and FBI agent Mike Rogers. Rogers ran an impressive campaign last time while only losing by 0.03% of the vote in one of the closest races in the country. His opponent, Abdul El Sayed is a supporter of the DSA agenda, an apologist for terrorists, and someone whose values don’t fit those of mainstream Michigan.
And I can’t miss out on mentioning my brother, Andy Anuzis, who is running for Wayne State University Board of Governors. Andy has been a High School principal at the Cornerstone Schools in Detroit and has a long history of public service both in Washington and in Lansing. Having him on the Board would be a burst of fresh air that would serve the University well… other than the fact I’d have to refer to him as “Governor.” 😊
But it’s a challenge. Michigan has long been a “purple” state that can go “red” under the right circumstances.
We have a strong slate of candidates… at the top and throughout those running for the State Senate and State House. Our state legislators have been the ONLY check on a progressive agenda that threatens our great state.
Turnout is key… our people, conservatives, Republicans, MAGA voters, Tea Party, Reagan Democrats, and just normal independents and Democrats have to turn out and vote for Common Sense.
Democrats and progressives are pushing “Medicare for All,” which means state employees, manufacturing workers, union workers, and those who have negotiated for a good healthcare plan will lose their plans. The Democrats’ plan doesn’t work for Michigan.
Elections have consequences, and voters across Michigan and our country have a chance to make a difference.
The government can’t give you anything for free until it first takes it away from someone else… you the taxpayer!!!
Act Blue & Voter Fraud: It seems like every day new and more damning information is coming out about Democrats laundering money through Act Blue and election irregularities that are hard to ignore.
Election workers, poll watchers, and even electronic voting machine employees have testified under oath about what they have witnessed.
It is clear that there are “some” folks out there trying to steal and/or influence the elections.
We also know now that there are tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who have registered to vote and thousands who have actually voted.
Little old ladies in their 80’s are recorded as making of 15,000 contributions to Democrats… and when confronted, admit they don’t even own a computer.
This is serious, it’s methodical and planned by bad actors… and needs to be fixed, found, and prosecuted.
Chaos In Moscow – Easy Solution: Leave Ukraine and your neighbors alone!
The Russia elite are really starting to feel “the pain”… not the death and terrorism Putin is raining down on Ukraine, but long gas lines, travel inconvenience, and closed banks… basically first-world problems.
There is an EASY solution… STOP the war. STOP terrorizing your neighbors. STOP committing war crimes. STOP threatening NATO, the EU, and other neighbors for the sake of Putin’s ego.
Negotiations are a joke… Russia is just trying to play Trump and the West.
Every “peace plan” for Ukraine contains the same hidden clause: Ukraine trades land for time, and Russia trades nothing for both.
Russia is the aggressor. Russia is the bad guy. Russia should pay for its war crimes. And the Russian people should eventually speak up… someday, maybe?!
Are the Russians already preparing to leave Ukraine?
Putin has unexpectedly called on Russian authorities to start preparing in advance for the return of large numbers of servicemen from the front once the so-called “special military operation” ends.
According to Putin, “many people” will return, and Russia will have to find them jobs and reintegrate them into civilian life.
For years, Russians were promised “Kyiv in three days,” endless victories, and the achievement of every supposed objective. Now the Kremlin is already discussing what to do with its soldiers when they come home.
This is certainly not an announcement of a Russian withdrawal from Ukraine. But the shift in rhetoric is noteworthy.

Republicans Must Make 2026 a Choice Between Two Teams
Republicans can win the 2026 midterms by focusing on affordability and defining the choice for voters.
Newt Gingrich joined Mornings with Maria on FOX Business to discuss the growing influence of big government socialism in the Democratic Party and what Republicans must do to win the 2026 midterm elections.
Newt said younger voters have increasingly embraced socialism after years of being taught that it is a positive alternative, while also confronting high housing costs, limited job opportunities and frustration with the economy. But he argued that big government socialism has consistently failed and that the “weird values” increasingly associated with the Democratic Party remain far outside the views of most Americans.
Looking toward November, Newt said Republicans should frame the election as a choice between two teams and ask Americans which team they trust to create a better future. But winning that argument will require Republicans to tell their own story more effectively. Newt pointed to tax relief, savings accounts for children and other policies Republicans have already enacted that directly affect American families.
Redistricting gives Republicans an edge, but affordability will decide the midterms

Republicans may be winning the redistricting war while losing the voters they need to build a lasting majority. The latest Fox News Power Rankings reveal a serious warning for Republicans. The new maps favor the GOP, but the political environment favors Democrats. The GOP could gain a dozen seats, including up to nine in Florida and Texas, due to redistricting. However, House Democrats expanded their midterm target list to 58 Republican-held districts, adding 12 seats in territory President Donald Trump carried. While expanded targets do not guarantee Democratic victories, they signal that Democrats see an opening among dissatisfied voters.
Republicans must confront this challenge before the November midterms, but they must also recognize the opportunity to strengthen the party for future elections. Redistricting can give overlooked voters a stronger voice, attract better candidates and provide Republicans the stability needed to govern, but it cannot generate public confidence or voter enthusiasm. Current polling signals the urgency. Seventy-five percent of voters said inflation had caused financial hardship, while 54% expected the economy to worsen.
Democrats lead the generic congressional ballot 53% to 46%, with voters preferring them on inflation by 10 points and the economy by nine. Democrats also hold an enthusiasm advantage, with 68% saying they are extremely motivated to vote in November compared with 57% of Republicans. In counties likely to determine control of Congress, where Trump and Kamala Harris finished within 10 points in 2024, Democrats lead the congressional ballot 59% to 41%. A separate Reuters/Ipsos poll found voters preferring Democrats over Republicans on the economy for the first time in nearly a decade. While the advantage is only one point, it is significant because Republicans risk losing their historic advantage on the issue that often determines elections.
ActBlue cofounder pleads the Fifth during House deposition
ActBlue cofounder Matt DeBergalis invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination multiple times on Thursday during a closed-door deposition in a congressional investigation of the Democratic fundraising platform.
The interview before the House Administration, House Judiciary, and Oversight and Government Reform committees lasted less than half an hour, according to two sources familiar with the hearing. Lawmakers had sought testimony from the cofounder of Democrats’ largest fundraising apparatus as part of a joint Republican-led inquiry into allegations that ActBlue’s fraud-prevention practices allowed fraudulent or foreign donations to enter U.S. political campaigns.
The development was first reported by Fox News, which reported DeBergalis was seen entering and leaving the committee room within roughly 25 minutes.

August 1976 — precisely 50 years ago — marked a seminal turning point in the political career of Ronald Reagan, the man who would later serve two terms as America’s 40th president (1981-1989). Tax cuts, not hikes, raise the tide for all

President Ronald Reagan made history 45 years ago when he signed the largest tax cuts ever at his beloved California Rancho del Cielo. His actions were part of a major economic boom that lasted well past his presidency into the next decade.
Prior to his election in 1980, Americans faced stagflation, a mixture of stagnant economic growth, very high unemployment and rapidly increasing inflation. Typically, inflation and unemployment move in different directions, but both rose dramatically during President Jimmy Carter’s administration.
During the 1980 campaign, candidate Reagan made this issue the centerpiece when asking Americans if they were better off than they had been four years earlier. They were not.
Reagan told people: “Recession is when your neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose yours. And recovery is when Jimmy Carter loses his.”
Alzheimer’s is waging a war on millions. Congress could help us win it

Roughly one-in-nine Americans age 65 and older suffer from dementia caused by Alzheimer’s disease. This represents about 7.2 million people, according to the National Institutes of Health. Chances are, you know someone among them.
Alzheimer’s is a thief. It steals memories, identities, independence and, ultimately, it takes lives. It is the sixth-leading cause of death in America, but the loss extends far beyond the person diagnosed. Spouses become full-time caregivers. Adult children rearrange their lives and careers. Friends grieve someone who is still there but no longer themselves. When you account for all those affected — partners, children, siblings, close friends — the 7.2 million people living with Alzheimer’s become 25 to 50 million Americans whose lives are shaped by this disease.
This is where our current troubles manifest. While our efforts in the early 2000s and 2010s have provided great leaps in dealing with Alzheimer’s, further advancements are being blocked by our misguided, broken approach to healthcare policy.
In 2007, I co-chaired the Alzheimer’s Study Group. It was a bipartisan blue-ribbon task force convened to investigate and seek solutions to Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive illnesses.
Senior health care shouldn’t be an afterthought

Across central Pennsylvania, plenty of people are staying in the workforce well past what used to be considered retirement age. Some still enjoy what they do and aren’t ready to slow down, while others like the extra income. Many older adults simply want to stay active, stay connected, stay healthy, all while contributing to their communities.
Whatever the reason for their personal decisions, older Pennsylvanians are making important contributions to our economy every single day. I saw that firsthand when I served as the president and CEO of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce. But I’ve also come to understand something from a more personal vantage point: People are far more likely to keep working, volunteering, and showing up when they have health care they can trust.
MAGA Warrior Harriet Hageman Gets Ready To Head To The Senate
Having done us all the favor of destroying the repulsive quisling Liz Cheney and taking her seat in the House of Representatives, the Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman is probably headed for a seat in the Senate. In Wyoming’s primary elections this week, Hageman won 65 percent of the Republican vote. In a state with a massive Republican voter advantage, victory in the GOP primary is nearly the equivalent of certain victory in the general election.
While Hageman is solidly MAGA (and something of a human flamethrower in committee hearings), that’s mostly not what the just-concluded race was about. In a reminder that all politics is local, the Republican contest in Wyoming was mostly about public land in Wyoming. Conservative voters split between a politically conservative faction that criticizes excessive federal land ownership in a place where the federal government owns nearly half of all land in the state, and a culturally conservative faction that argues for the importance of public land to the rural way of life.
Hageman has been a consistent critic of federal land management practices, and of the large-scale federal ownership of the West. On her House website, she asks “How Much Federal Land Is Too Much?” In that essay, Hageman argues that a federal government with limited constitutional authority should “return unappropriated lands to the state.”
58 Percent of Democrats Hold Positive View of Socialism over Capitalism
More than half of Democrats hold a more positive view of socialism as opposed to capitalism, according to a recent CBS News/YouGov poll.
The poll, which surveyed 2,287 adults in the United States between August 12-14, found that there is a 26-point difference between Democrats’ positive views on socialism and capitalism.
Among Democrats, 58 percent were found to have a positive view of socialism, while 32 percent have a positive view of capitalism. The poll also found that 18 percent of Democrats have a negative view of socialism, while 50 percent have a negative view of capitalism.
Almost 60 Percent of Democrats Have a Favorable View of Socialism
Recent polls show steady growth in support for socialism among Democrats. A new CBS poll shows how popular it is, with 58 percent holding a positive view of socialism—26 points more than the 32 percent with a positive view of capitalism. This may explain why House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, while rejecting core parts of its platform, embraced Democratic Socialists this week as part of the Democratic Party. In addition to a variety of anti-Semitic figures within its ranks, the DSA wants to get rid of the presidency, the Senate, the Supreme Court, and other institutions (as well as borders, immigration enforcement, and much of private property). Yet, Jeffries still believes they share values and wants them to be part of the Democratic party. In other words, there are many “fine people” in the DSA despite being committed to the destruction of our core institutions.
The poll also found that 24 percent of Democrats have “no opinion” of socialism, while 18 percent have no opinion regarding capitalism.
Other polling shows similar results. An Economist/YouGov survey recently found that 62 percent of Democrats said they would vote for a “Democratic Socialist” candidate.
At the same time, Democratic Socialists have been spinning fables about the Framers not opposing those who acquire too much wealth. They also repeat the mythology that socialism has worked in other countries. It destroyed the economies in France and Great Britain.
Who Will Pay for Democratic Socialism’s $200 Trillion Cost?
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) propose new spending that could more than triple federal outlays. They propose the government pay for health care, housing, higher education, and electricity. Jobs are government-guaranteed, retirement benefits are expanded, paid family leave is universal, fossil fuels are eliminated, and reparations are paid.
The DSA platform claims that the bill for all this will be sent to “the richest individuals and corporations.” Tally up that bill, and it ballparks between $71 trillion and $212 trillion in new spending over the next decade. Confiscating every dollar of high-end wealth and corporate profits would cover only a fraction of those costs. The DSA agenda necessitates high taxes on middle-class Americans.
$200 Trillion in New Spending
Totaling up nine of the largest proposals in the DSA platform would mean new federal spending equivalent to between 18 percent and 53 percent of GDP.
Table 1 reports various low-end and high-end estimates of proposals for programs that approximate the DSA’s vague descriptions. Each proposal’s original spending estimate is converted to a share of GDP and then applied to the 2027–2036 projected GDP, so all estimates are in current dollars.
The poll also found that 24 percent of Democrats have “no opinion” of socialism, while 18 percent have no opinion regarding capitalism.
Meet America’s New Un-Americans… the DSA

An all-time favorite whipping boy of the American Left is the House Committee on Un-American Activities. Most readers wouldn’t recognize the group by its proper acronym — HCUAA — but they certainly know the Left’s reordered, twisted acronym: the dread “HUAC.” That translates to the “House Un-American Committee.” Improperly rendered, yes, but the label has stuck. You can succeed at such propaganda when your ideology pervades the media, Hollywood, academia, the culture — what we at The American Spectator have long called the Kultursmog.
Note the cynical repackaging of the committee and its mission: The Left, and especially far-left communist organs such as the Daily Worker, attempted to recast this important committee of the U.S. House of Representatives as un-American itself. That was a rather audacious move by the comrades, given who they were, and what the committee was not. The fact is that HCUAA had been run by Democrats and Republicans alike throughout its existence — by solid, bipartisan congressmen. The Democrat chairs of the House Committee on Un-American Activities ran from Rep. Martin Dies (D-TX) in the 1930s, to Rep. Francis Walter (D-PA), to Rep. Richard Ichord (D-MO) in the 1970s….
…The enemy is inside the gates, armed with its ideas.
Speaking of which, it’s a self-evident truth that socialism, communism, and Marxism are antithetical to the ideals the American system was founded upon. Any reading of the writings of leading socialists, communists, and Marxists makes that plain as day. Take a mere few hours to read the very brief Communist Manifesto of Marx and Engels. It blatantly goes against everything the American founders believed.

NATO’s Nightmare

estern military planners do not seem eager to talk about their nightmare scenario, much less prepare for it. But they tend to agree on how it would begin: a coordinated, near-simultaneous attack on opposite sides of the planet, in which Russia targets a NATO member in Eastern Europe while China makes its move against Taiwan. The U.S. military would need to react on two fronts at once—three if it remains at war in the Middle East.
Until recently, this possibility sat at the more outlandish end of the threat spectrum, somewhere between a loose nuke and an alien invasion. Synchronized attacks would require a conspiracy too big for Beijing and Moscow to hide. Satellites would see their forces getting into position, giving the United States and its allies time to rally their defenses.
About a year ago, General Alexus Grynkewich, the top NATO commander in Europe, issued a rare public warning about the risk of a two-front war against Russia and China, and he called on European allies to help the U.S. prepare. But when I asked a range of military experts and strategists what the West would do in such a situation, the responses rang surprisingly hollow. Most of them expressed bewilderment and a bit of shame about how little has been done in recent years to study this risk in detail.
Analysis: Russia doubles down, setting stage for new phase of total war
Two large and heavily armed states locked in an existential armed struggle. Hundreds of thousands of casualties. Mass mobilization. Systematic long-range strike campaigns against the enemy’s economy and infrastructure. Defense budgets swallowing huge proportions of state spending.
All these factors evoke an image of “total war” — the kind of interstate conflict where state, society, and economy are all not only an active part of the war effort but also a target of enemy strikes.
Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine is now one of the deadliest conflicts of the 21st century and one of the most brutal, drawn-out interstate wars since 1945.
Yet the term “total war” has barely been raised in the otherwise lively intellectual discourse.

For as long as Russian President Vladimir Putin continued to refrain from announcing sustained forced mobilization in Russia, and for as long as economic activity in both countries continued in a somewhat normal pattern, it didn’t always feel like both sides were all in.
But many of the restraints that have kept it from becoming total war are beginning to disappear.
For Kyiv, the fifth year of the full-scale war has undeniably seen many positives, especially compared to the same period last year.
