(Alexandria, Virginia) — The 60 Plus Association, America’s largest center-right seniors group with over 7.2 million supporters, today cheered a new bill proposed today to kill the federal death tax. Titled the “Death Tax Repeal Act of 2015,” the bill is sponsored by Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Sanford Bishop (D-GA). Death tax repeal already enjoys strong support in the U.S. House, and a majority of U.S. Senators back repeal.
A national leader in fighting for death tax repeal for more than 20 years, 60 Plus Association Chairman Jim Martin stated, “The fight continues to once and for all kill and bury the federal death tax, the most destructive, injurious and insulting money grab by the federal government ever concocted. Nothing kills jobs, our economy, and hampers the ability of those on the lower rungs of the economy to build wealth and prosperity than the death tax, and it is long overdue that it be dead and buried.”
Martin’s statements were echoed in statements from the bill’s sponsors. Said Rep. Brady, “The Death Tax is still the number one reason family-owned farms and businesses in America aren’t passed down to the next generation. It’s the wrong tax at the wrong time and hurts the wrong people.”
Said Rep. Bishop, “I have heard from farmers, funeral home owners, newspaper publishers, radio station owners, and garment manufacturers about the need for estate tax relief. I believe that the estate tax is politically misguided, morally unjustified and downright un-American. It undermines the life work and the life savings of farmers and small- and medium-sized businesses in Georgia and across the nation.”
Concluded Martin, “Seniors are extremely grateful for Congressmen Brady and Bishop, taking on this fight for families, for seniors, and for future generations who still aspire to the American dream. Nothing is more un-American than the death tax, and those who join us in the fight to see its dying breath have our eternal support in this mission.”
