“We thank Congressman Buchanan for his work for seniors and hope that his colleagues in Washington will follow his lead and work on substantive tax reform this year.”
(Tampa, Florida) – The non-partisan 60 Plus Association, representing more than 7.2 million seniors nationally, including more than 850,000 in Florida, today presented its Guardian of Seniors Rights award to Congressman Vern Buchanan (R) for his voting positions in support of seniors, including his stance as a vocal leader on the need for tax reform to create jobs and stimulate the economy. The award was presented during a ceremony featuring Rep. Buchanan as keynote speaker on behalf of the Main Street Growth and Opportunity Coalition.
Said 60 Plus Southeastern Director Apryl Marie Fogel, on hand to present the award, “This event, and this award for Congressman Buchanan, signal to Congress that the time has come for bi-partisan tax reform that will help businesses and the economy grow. The Coalition and its members from across Florida are hopeful that Congressman Buchanan’s colleagues will join him in getting to work on tax reform this year.
“There are many challenges facing seniors today, and the challenge of economic uncertainty caused by our out-of-date tax policies grows more daunting each day. Our seniors have worked hard to create and preserve the America we know today and we have a responsibility to pass on a nation full of opportunities to the generations ahead.”
Continued Fogel, “60 Plus is honored to be able to recognize policymakers like Congressman Buchanan who have diligently promoted comprehensive tax reform to strengthen the economy, create more jobs, and reduce the tax burden on seniors.
“Our nation’s tax code has not seen a substantial overhaul in nearly 30 years and to some, substantive tax reform and all of the benefits that would surely follow seem like far-off dreams. But with committed leaders like Congressman Holding, there is reason to believe that meaningful tax reform is within reach before 2016.
“We thank Congressman Buchanan for his work for seniors and hope that his colleagues in Washington will follow his lead and work on substantive tax reform this year.”
