Jim Martin, “AARP is a laughingstock with seniors, they have no credibility. This is why America’s elderly are voting overwhelmingly for Governor Romney and Paul Ryan.”
(Alexandria, Virginia) – While the AARP seeks to put distance between itself and the White House in an attempt to appear neutral and non-partisan, its leaders continue to praise Obamacare heading into the final weeks of the 2012 election. New AARP President Robert Romasco made comments this week saying that Obamacare is a good thing for seniors, because “insurance companies will be prevented from throwing people off once they are on it… and [Obamacare] extends the life of the Medicare trust fund another eight years.”
After last week’s debate between President Obama and Governor Romney, AARP Executive Vice President John Hishta released a memo asking Obama not to mention AARP as they are a ‘non-partisan’ organization, a claim ridiculed and debunked by 60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin, leader of the nation’s largest conservative seniors organization with over 7.2 million senior supporters.
“The AARP is an absolutely laughingstock with seniors right now,” said Martin. “We all know that AARP executives worked behind the scenes to give talking points to the White House in a sleazy attempt to sell Obamacare and its $700 billion in cuts to Medicare, to America’s elderly. Well seniors didn’t buy it then, and we are not buying AARP’s line now that they are independent and not supporting any party or candidate. Today they are still out on the stump, trying to sell this bad medicine to seniors as we head into the final weeks of an election. The stench of hypocrisy is unbearable.
“The AARP and its lobbyists got rich by slashing Medicare and being the star player in helping Obama and Nancy Pelosi pass Obamacare. Over seven million seniors will lose Medicare Advantage, and tens of millions of seniors now face rationing and reduced healthcare services, yet AARP president Romasco is out on the stump, still putting AARP’s name behind Obamacare with ridiculous claims that seniors will benefit when they know full well this law is a disaster for seniors.
“As someone once said, you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas. Mr. Hishta and his friends at the AARP are doing a lot of scratching now, and they have no one to blame but themselves.”
