Seniors Salute Sessions

Endorse Death Tax Repeal Now!

Statement By 60 Plus Association President Jim Martin

Arlington, VA — “Senior citizens salute Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and the more than 20 co-sponsors he has for the Jobs Protection and Estate Tax Reform Act of 2005.

We’ve worked for over 10 years to kill this confiscatory tax and unlike other bills that repeal the anti-family death tax in 2010, Senator Sessions shows sensitivity to seniors by making his legislation effective in 2005.

From my vantage point as head of a senior’s group, I know one senior who has said to me, ‘Jim, I’m 88 years of age and I can’t wait until 2010 for permanent repeal of this hideous tax!’

To anyone who calls death tax repeal “a tax cut for the rich”…that’s nonsense, because the so-called rich don’t pay it. Rather, they hire accountants and lawyers to shield themselves and their assets from this tax. And of late, there are those misguided in Congress who have begun to call death tax repeal by the perverted name of the Paris Hilton Relief Act. What an insult! What a trivial way to speak about a tax that hurts small businesses and farmers. The death tax doesn’t apply to people like poor little Paris; ever heard of The Hilton Foundation, the Heinz Foundation, the Gates and Turner Foundations?”
