Statement from 60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin on failed ObamaCare repeal effort in the U.S. Senate.
(Alexandria, Virginia) — 60 Plus Association Chairman Jim Martin — leader of the largest and most influential conservative seniors advocacy group — issued the following statement following the failed attempt this evening by GOP Senators to repeal President Obama’s health care program:
“Tonight dozens of Democrat Senators told their constituents — including millions of seniors across our nation — that they could care less what the people think, and put their own partisan agenda ahead of the wishes of the majority of Americans who want to see the disastrous and outrageously expensive ObamaCare program repealed.
“For nearly two years the 60 Plus Association, along with many sensible policy analysts and grassroots organizations, warned that ObamaCare would hurt the delivery of health care in this nation, hurt seniors, hurt the workers’ pocketbooks and drown generations to come in more debt.
“All of our predictions have come true. In just a few short months since ObamaCare was passed we’ve seen businesses hurt by increased taxes, health care premiums rise precipitously, tens of thousands of people lose insurance coverage, seniors lose access to their doctors, all while speeding our nation toward bankruptcy.
“But instead of admitting their mistake and taking action to fix the problem, Democrats decided it was best to just slap another coat of paint on the Titanic and send it back out to sea.
“The senior tsunami of 2010 — which sent more than 60 pro-ObamaCare Congressmen to an early retirement — is guaranteed to return in 2012, to repeal the careers of the Senators who this evening once again embraced this scandalous, anti-senior legislation.
“Senator Mitch McConnell demonstrated what true leadership is by keeping his word to force a vote on repeal, and he is to be commended for keeping his word. He and the Senators who voted for repeal are true heroes to seniors, and true friends to every freedom-loving American.”
