ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (May 9, 2018) – 60 Plus Association Founder and Chairman James Martin Wednesday issued the following statement In support of Gina Haspel’s nomination to serve as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

“Gina Haspel is an American patriot with a distinguished career of helping to keep our nation safe. During her 33 years of service at the CIA, Gina Haspel confronted some of the gravest threats facing the United States. From Soviet Communism and the Cold War to the fight against global terrorism, she has risen to every challenge. Gina Haspel is the right woman at the right time and President Trump could not have found a more qualified, more dedicated nominee to lead the CIA.

“Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has given his unwavering support for Gina Haspel’s nomination to succeed him, and many others in the national security community have also testified to her skill, knowledge, courage and commitment.

“Having worked with the CIA during my service with the Marine Security Detachment at the American Embassy in Jakarta during the rise of Communism in southeast Asia from 1956-1958, I know first hand the sacrifice our intelligence personnel endure in service to their country and nobody exemplifies this better than Gina Haspel.

“With international tensions building, it is imperative that the Senate confirm Gina Haspel as CIA Director as quickly as possible. This is more than a simple Senate confirmation process, it’s about moving with due diligence to keep America safe. It would be irresponsible for partisan politicians to use her nomination as a political football and any delay in confirming Gina Haspel as CIA Director places our national security at risk.”
