60 Plus Chairman: “Unlike AARP, 60 Plus will listen to seniors”

(Alexandria, Virginia) – The 60 Plus Association, the leading conservative seniors organization with over 7.2 million supporters nationwide, is continuing its inaugural “Healthcare Freedom” bus tour Monday and Tuesday in Virginia, with stops in Virginia Beach, Richmond (Varina) and Arlington. The tour, having just completed an eight-stop swing through Florida, will motor to Ohio later this week, concluding in Cincinnati on June 28th.

60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin, who currently resides in Arlington, VA, emphasized, “We believe Congress, controlled in 2010 by Democrats, aided and abetted by the AARP, did an injustice to seniors by ramming an unread 2,700 page healthcare overhaul down our throats.  The result was ending Medicare as we know it by slashing a half trillion dollars from the program that seniors have paid into all of their lives, causing seniors to vote in record numbers in the 2010 elections, defeating dozens of Democrats who supported the bill.”

The “Healthcare Freedom” Tour will visit with seniors to discuss their reaction to the controversial healthcare reform bill passed in 2010. This legislation, which remains unpopular with seniors, cuts Medicare, cripples Medicare Advantage, establishes a “Medicare IRS”, and generally provides for a bureaucratic takeover of important health care decisions — all unpopular with seniors.

Events surrounding the tour will include rallies, health care briefings, meet & greets, and townhall meetings. It will also feature healthcare experts and advocates, as well as the 60 Plus leadership team, including Martin and other policy experts and grassroots leaders.
