Jim Martin, “America’s seniors have stated loud and clear they wouldn’t trust Joe Biden to sell them a car, they sure don’t trust him with four more years handling our economy, Social Security or Medicare.”

(Alexandria, Virginia) –  During the Vice Presidential debate Thursday evening, Joe Biden turned to the cameras when discussing Medicare and asked seniors directly, “Who do you trust?”  Given Governor Romney’s 20-plus point lead in current polls with voters 65 and over, it seems that question has been answered convincingly.  But 60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin, leader of the nation’s largest conservative seniors organization, was still willing to spell out the obvious to the Vice President why his ticket is failing with seniors.

Said Martin, “Joe Biden can smirk, twitch, guffaw, spin or vibrate all he wants in front of an audience, but despite his repertoire of facial gymnastics and paroxysms over the course of his debate with Paul Ryan, Biden can’t erase his decades putting demagoguery and political showmanship over honest leadership on behalf of seniors.

“As a general rule, seniors know better than to trust career politicians who push through a $700 billion cut in Medicare and then call it a ‘good thing’ for seniors.  Your anti-senior agenda of gutting Medicare and creating a rationing board for seniors’ healthcare are just some of the dozens of reasons why seniors now support Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan by over 20 points in current polls.”

Citing Biden’s record on seniors issues, Martin notes:

• Biden falsely claims Mitt Romney will tax Social Security benefits, when it was Biden who voted to tax Social Security benefits in 1993, and proposed freezing benefits in 1984
• Biden attacks Republicans for wanted to “end Medicare” while even the Washington Post points out that Obamacare cuts Medicare by over $700 billion
• Under Obama and Biden, America has achieved a record high of seniors living in poverty
• Biden promises to raise taxes by ‘a trillion dollars,’ and outrageous promise of future economic decline that will destroy our economy and rob hundreds of billions from seniors

“Mr. Biden asked one of the easiest questions of the 2012 political season.  Who do seniors trust?  It’s not Obama/Biden, who are gutting Medicare, rationing medicine, cutting benefits and robbing seniors of every dime they can get their hands on.”
