Introduces The Lower Costs, More Cures Act
Washington, DC (May 18, 2021) –Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA-5) has earned a Legislator of the Month Award from 60 Plus, the American Association of Senior Citizens.
At an event on Capitol Hill where Rep. Rodgers received the award 60 Plus President Saul Anuzis said, “On behalf of more than five million senior citizen supporters we applaud Congresswoman Rodgers for introducing H.R. 19, The Lower Costs, More Cures Act that uses bipartisan reforms to lower out-of-pocket spending on new medicines and cures, strengthen transparency and accountability, and champion competition.”
60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin added, “Seniors should not have to choose between paying for food or for medicine that is crucial to their health and wellbeing. This bill will put a stop to Speaker Pelosi’s government takeover of prescription drug pricing which would inevitably lead to fewer cures as well as diminish the life of people with disabilities and those who have chronic illnesses.”
Anuzis added, “H.R. 19 would redesign Medicare Part D that would eliminate the “donut hole,” plus expand plan options. Your legislation includes several provisions related to drug price transparency, including requiring manufacturers to report certain price increases to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which would post their reports on the HHS website,” concluded Anuzis.
“The award is presented to Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate who are a proven leader on senior citizen issues. We are pleased to present this award to Congresswoman Rodgers who is someone seniors can definitely count on to lower prescription drug prices,” Martin concluded.
