60 Plus Jim Martin: “Seniors on fixed incomes are hurt the most by out-of-control federal regulations.”
(Alexandria, Virginia) – 60 Plus Association Chairman Jim Martin, leader of the largest conservative seniors advocacy group in the nation, today voiced his support for proposed GOP legislation that will limit regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency.
The EPA, Martin charged, is working overtime to regulate U.S. industry and American energy providers such as coal producers, policies that threaten severe pain to senior citizens on fixed incomes who will pay much more to heat their homes if such regulations go into effect. The bills were offered by Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as a compromise effort to President Obama, who has voiced interest in reducing federal regulations.
“The EPA under this Administration is running like a pinball machine with the ’tilt’ sign flashing. Their agenda is extreme, they are out of control, and at every turn their actions and over-zealous regulations threaten to harm the most vulnerable in our economy – senior citizens on fixed incomes. When the EPA springs into action and burdens energy producers like coal producers who provide nearly half of the electricity in our nation, America’s seniors feel the pain most of all.
“Speaker Boehner is a true champion for seniors by proposing this sensible reigning-in of the EPA. This bill is just what the doctor ordered, to protect jobs, give our economy a chance to catch its breath, and most especially of concern to the 60 Plus Association, defend seniors from the whims of reckless and unaccountable federal regulators.
“President Obama, make good on your promise to reduce federal regulations. Get this common-sense legislation through your party’s leadership in the Senate, and sign the bill into law. America’s seniors are watching you as if their lives depend on it, because for many of them, it does.”
