Statement from the 60 Plus Association on EPA Secretary McCarthy Acknowledging Feds Can’t Withhold Highway Funds

(Alexandria, Virginia) — The 60 Plus Association, the nation’s largest right-leaning seniors organization with over 7.2 million supporters today issued a statement through Chairman Jim Martin regarding EPA Secretary Gina McCarthy’s statement that the federal government does not have the authority to withhold federal highway funds from states that do not cooperate with her agency’s Clean Power Plan (CPP) regulation:

“Finally, the EPA and Secretary McCarthy have acknowledged that a well-known fib proponents of the CPP have been trumpeting is just not true; the federal government has no authority to deny highway funds to states who refuse to have their arm-twisted into supporting the CPP.

“There is a reason why many lawmakers and attorneys, including Obama’s old Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe, believe the CPP is flat out un-Constitutional. It is because of the unprecedented power grab Obama and the EPA have devised to bully states into submission. The attempt to deny them highway funds just shows the lengths they will go to threaten and mislead to achieve their ends.

“The Administration’s transparent attempts to punish state governors and legislatures that don’t comply with their extreme agenda is simply staggering in its arrogance. This admission from Secretary McCarthy is a good first step, but it’s now time to come clean and shut down this despotic and un-Constitutional plan once and for all.”
