Keystone XL Pipeline Delay Siphons Money from Seniors’ Pockets

The elderly on fixed and declining incomes are most hurt by Obama decisions to deny additional energy resources for his floundering economy.

(Alexandria, Virginia) – 60 Plus Association Chairman and Founder Jim Martin, leader of the nation’s largest conservative seniors advocacy group and the acknowledged alternative to the liberal AARP, today demanded that President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry reverse course and approve the completion of the Keystone XL pipeline, a project which would create tens of thousands of jobs, and bring nearly 1 million barrels of oil a day to Texas refineries from within North America.

“Despite broad bi-partisan support for the Keystone pipeline, the President insists on vetoing jobs and energy independence because he agrees with the far left environmental radicals who oppose every attempt to expand America’s supply of oil.  His policy opposing this energy bonanza is a tragedy that weakens our nation, takes food off the plates of hard working Americans, and keeps energy costs high for all of us.

“I guess the President can’t appreciate that gas prices are once again skyrocketing, since most of his driving is spent in an electric golf cart.  But the reality of his energy policies are that tighter supplies make energy cost more, and seniors on declining incomes will be especially hurt by turning off the spigot of America’s energy future.”

The Keystone project spans 1,700 miles from Canada to U.S. refineries in the Gulf of Mexico.  Funded by $7 billion in private investment, the pipeline would create 20,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs according to studies, as well as bring nearly 1 million barrels of crude a day to the U.S., making America less dependent on foreign oil from hostile and unstable nations.

“This project has been studied to death, and a majority in both the House and Senate support its immediate approval,” continued Martin. “Seniors follow this issue closely, and while they won’t benefit from Keystone oil this Winter, they’ll be boiling mad at this President for once again putting ideology before helping average Americans.”
