President offers threats instead of leadership in tackling nation’s budget mess

(Alexandria, Virginia) – 60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin, leader of the nation’s largest conservative seniors organization with over 7.2 million senior supporters, today made the following comments regarding President Obama’s press conference this morning:

“New term, same old Obama.  This President believes in one thing and one thing only when it comes to our federal budget: keep borrowing and spending, and then borrow and spend even more.

“The mounting federal debt and Washington’s commitment to spending money we don’t have is THE critical issue facing our nation today and all generations after.  The fact the President is more interested in making political threats and attacking his opponents than putting America on sound financial footing says everything you need to know about why he has failed, and why he cannot be trusted to do the right thing for our nation.

“During the 2012 presidential campaign, Obama said we need solutions to problems that are ‘serious’ and ‘responsible.’  Trillion dollar yearly deficits are the exact opposite of both serious and responsible, and unfortunately until there is real leadership in the White House both our economy and our families will continue to suffer.”
